The Issue

I recently experienced an incident that prompted me to start this petition. One evening, as the sounds of fireworks exploded around our neighborhood, my beloved pet dog cowered in fear, shaking uncontrollably. The noise was so overwhelming that I feared for his safety and well-being. This distressing experience made me realize that fireworks pose a serious risk not only to pets but also to wildlife and even farm animals.

In addition to the emotional trauma that fireworks cause to animals, they can also lead to physical harm. When scared, animals might run away from home to escape the noise, getting lost or injured in the process. The loud bangs can lead to wildlife abandoning their nests or habitats, leaving young animals vulnerable. According to the British Veterinary Association, every year countless animals suffer extreme stress or even die due to the severe anxiety caused by fireworks.

Fireworks also have a detrimental impact on the environment. They release toxins and heavy metals into the air, contributing to both air and water pollution. This not only affects animal habitats but also poses a threat to human health. According to the Air Quality Expert Group's report for the UK government, emissions from fireworks contribute significantly to air pollution, particularly particulate matter and chemicals harmful to living organisms.

To safeguard our animals and protect our environment, we propose to ban the use of fireworks in residential areas. Instead of traditional fireworks, we recommend the use of silent or quieter alternatives, such as laser light shows or drone displays, which can be equally, if not more, entertaining without causing disruption to our pets and the ecosystem.

I urge you to join me in calling for change. Let's work together to create a pet-friendly environment where our animals are safe and secure, especially during festive celebrations. By signing this petition, you will help send a strong message to local and national authorities that the welfare of animals is a priority and concerns about fireworks need to be addressed.
