Ban fireworks to protect our animals

The Issue

My beloved dog cowers in fear and shakes uncontrollably every time fireworks go off. It's heartbreaking to witness the distress that these loud explosions cause not only to my pet but also to countless other animals in our community. Living near both a cat and dog shelter, I see firsthand the chaos and anxiety that fireworks create, often resulting in animals going missing or suffering injuries trying to escape the noise.

We need to recognize that the thrill and beauty of fireworks are overshadowed by the profound impact they have on vulnerable creatures who rely solely on us for their protection and well-being. Beyond personal anecdotes, numerous studies and animal welfare organizations have highlighted the adverse effects of fireworks on pets and wildlife. For instance, according to the RSPCA, around 62% of dogs, 54% of cats, and 55% of horses show signs of fear during fireworks displays.

The fear doesn't stop at our pets. Birds and other wildlife are also affected by fireworks at a broader scale. The flashes and loud bangs can cause them to flee their nests in panic, which can lead to dire consequences. In some unfortunate instances, these creatures end up injured or even killed trying to escape the ensuing chaos. The negative environmental impact of fireworks, including air and noise pollution, should not be understated either.

But what can we do? The solution is both practical and achievable. Transitioning from traditional fireworks to silent alternatives can alleviate these issues. Many communities worldwide have already made this switch, enjoying quiet yet dazzling displays that delight the public without harming animals. We can campaign for legal reforms that mandate the use of silent fireworks in residential areas and around animals.

It's time for us to act in compassion and save our beloved companions and wildlife from unnecessary suffering. Please join me in urging our local council and government to ban noisy fireworks in favor of more animal-friendly alternatives. Sign this petition to voice your support for this vital change. Together, we can create a safer environment for all creatures, great and small.
