Ban fireworks for the sake of animals and PTSD sufferers

Ban fireworks for the sake of animals and PTSD sufferers

The Issue

Having witnessed firsthand the distress and trauma caused by fireworks on both animals and humans, I feel compelled to call for a change. Every year, countless domestic animals are subjected to extreme panic and anxiety during fireworks displays, leading to severe distress, physical injury, or even death. For wildlife, the sudden noise can disrupt mating, feeding, and nesting practices, potentially leading to long-term effects on local ecosystems.

Moreover, many people suffering from PTSD, including veterans and survivors of violence, endure acute psychological distress with each explosion, as the sounds and flashes can trigger flashbacks and panic attacks. This suffering is preventable and unnecessary, and definitely not worth the temporary enjoyment fireworks can provide.

Consider that quieter alternatives exist. Silent fireworks are now available without the harmful consequences for vulnerable groups. Cities around the world have begun to adopt these alternatives, proving that celebrations can be joyful without causing harm.

It's now time for legislators to prioritize the well-being of all living beings over a few moments of ‘entertainment’.

By signing this petition, you are being the voice for the voiceless and supporting a switch to safer, community-friendly festivities that respect both human and animal sensitivities.

Help lead the way in creating inclusive and considerate celebrations for everyone. Please join me in urging our lawmakers to ban traditional fireworks and embrace safer, more inclusive alternatives for the sake of our communities and environments.

Thank you
