The Issue

My heart aches every single day as I strive to bring my child home from the system that unjustly separated us. Like numerous other parents, I've committed to staying sober and clean, viewing my sobriety as a crucial lifeline to reunite with my child. Yet, I'm battling against a flawed system that threatens to shatter this lifeline with inaccurate drug testing methods. These unreliable tests are tearing apart innocent families, casting unwarranted suspicion on loving parents dedicated to doing right by their children.

Child Protective Services (CPS) utilizes drug testing patches intended to aid in their assessment of parental fitness. While the intent behind these tests is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, the reality is that they are not infallible. Indeed, they are faulty and can produce false positives, devastating families who deserve to be together. Countless mothers and fathers live in fear of their lives being upended by a misleading test result, with their integrity questioned merely due to flawed technology.

Statistics reveal worrying inaccuracies. According to studies, these patches can yield false positive rates as high as 10%, with environmental factors such as household products or even secondhand smoke influencing results. A mistake born out of unreliable tests can lead to children being removed from a loving environment, which is counterproductive to the mission of child welfare.

We need immediate reform. It is imperative that CPS ceases the use of these faulty drug tests, which not only harm families by creating unwarranted disruptions but also drain resources that could be devoted to genuine cases of child endangerment. Instead, I urge for a more accurate, scientifically reliable testing method that truly reflects the sobriety efforts of parents.

Join us in demanding change. By signing this petition, you contribute to a much-needed movement against the current injustice within the system. Stand with me and countless other parents demanding the rightful opportunity to prove our dedication to family and sobriety without fear of technological failings. Together, we can push for a system that supports, rather than undermines, the bonds between parents and their children. Please sign and share this petition to bring about this crucial change.
