About a dozen NYC organizations, including their Public Advocate, and supported by Amnesty International USA's 7,000+ volunteer decoders from around the world are campaigning for a total ban on facial recognition technology or FRT in "surveillance city."
Although several major cities have banned it, "around the world many cities are only one software upgrade away from using FRT."
This type of unchecked and unreliable surveillance is a direct assault on our constitutional and human rights and can put everyone at great risk including profiling, false arrests, and police violence.
Needless to say that this is why we need to get involved and stay vigilant against this kind of overt threats on our way of life.
