Ban Eid holidays being reported as absences
The Issue
Islam is the second largest religion in the UK and yet it is not being made an annual holiday. The UK is said to be a multicultural society, but is it really if other religion's holidays are not being recognised especially within schools? Even though we get authorised absences, the fact that we are taking a day off school is taken into consideration and recorded on our attendance reports.
Across the UK we are given two two-week holidays, one of which for Christmas and one of which for Easter but for Eid all we want is the 2 days off that could be Eid since it depends on the moon, so why aren't we allowed those days off?
In Islam, Muslims fast for the Holy month of Ramadan and are still going to school, like schools want us to; and still completing homework whilst fasting, like schools want us to so why can't schools do what we want?
Britain is known to be one of the most diverse countries across the world so officials should have no problem with fulfilling this small request for diversity. We are the younger generation and the future so we should do our best to make everyone feel comfortable and accepted in our country.
It is important that we realise that this because we can make a difference to all Muslim students across the UK and it all starts here with a click of a button. So why don't you try to help all of your Muslim friends and classmates by signing this petition and giving them the voice they need.
