Ban E-Scooters and E-Bikes in Boise, ID

Ban E-Scooters and E-Bikes in Boise, ID
The Issue
My friend was recently critically injured by a car while riding an e-scooter. Just days later, my own daughter was run over by another kid riding an e-scooter on her way home from school. These events have highlighted the serious safety risks posed by e-scooters and e-bikes on our streets—the potential for harm is immense and very personal for us here in Boise, ID.
The proliferation of e-scooters and e-bikes in our city has led to an alarming increase in accidents and injuries. According to recent studies, cities across the country have seen a surge in emergency room visits attributable to e-scooter and e-bike incidents, with head and limb injuries being the most common. In Boise, the lack of proper infrastructure for these vehicles only exacerbates the problem, endangering riders, pedestrians, and drivers alike.
We need to prioritize the safety of all residents—pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers—by addressing the growing hazard posed by e-scooters and e-bikes. Many users, especially younger riders, lack the necessary training and awareness to safely operate these vehicles. Furthermore, the current local regulations regarding their usage are either insufficient or poorly enforced.
I am calling on the Boise City Council to enact a complete ban on e-scooters and e-bikes within city limits. This measure may be seen as drastic, but it's a necessary step to protect our community members from further harm. While alternative transportation methods are important, our primary concern should be ensuring public safety. Following the ban, we can work together to explore safer, more sustainable options for our community, such as improving public transportation infrastructure and creating dedicated, safe areas for personal mobility devices.
Please join me in urging the Boise City Council to prioritize the safety of our citizens over the convenience of e-scooters and e-bikes. Sign this petition now to support a safer Boise.
