Ban dog meat consumption in Malaysia

Ban dog meat consumption in Malaysia
The Issue
About 30 million dogs are killed for consumption each year with 10 - 20 million in China alone. Dog meat is said to be most wide spread in China, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and Nagaland in India.
In Malaysia dog meat is endorsed as a protein source by the government. There are many dog farms, dog breeders and dog slaughter houses, however, the bigger problem is the abduction of pets from homes and owners to supplement this trade.
Laws in Malaysia are inadequate because a stolen pet would deemed as a theft case, which falls under the police jurisdiction. The police have no idea how to address this because animals come under the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS). There are no clear jurisdiction on roles and responsibilities between the two entities - one points finger to the other.
When dogs are bred as food, there are no regulatory bodies to monitor them. The DVS only acts upon tip off from the public. It is our believe that dogs farms are neither registered not monitored, subjecting poor dogs to abuse, torture and eventually painful death.
The root cause of this problem is the endorsement of dog meat as protein source. This has to change.
The government must ban breeding, farming, slaughtering, sale and consumption of dog meats.
