The Issue

The WNBA has always been about creating a safe space for people of all genders, races, and backgrounds to enjoy incredible basketball. With the recent media attention women's basketball has gotten, it has brought some negative, racial attention from people who claim to be "fans".

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy has inserted himself into this space, where he has disrespected the talented women of this league. For years, he has been harassing Angel Reese, a Black woman, using his online platform. Recently, he came to a WNBA game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky. He has previously been caught saying the N word on video along with other racist remarks (https://x.com/RzstProgramming/status/1456364628271828996) https://x.com/RzstProgramming/status/1456364821386076161

This behavior is not acceptable in any sporting event or in society at all.

As if that wasn't enough, he also made a $25k bet on Caitlin Clark, which made him $350k. He came in and disrespected the league that is made up of 81.1% people of color (via ESPN), and cashed out on their talent. The average WNBA player's salary is $102,249 in 2025 ( via Sports Illustrated).

The WNBA has made statements recently saying that they will not tolerate racism from any fans, and actions will be taken to remove any fans using bigoted language (https://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/article/wnba-condemns-alleged-hateful-fan-comments-after-angel-reese-reportedly-targeted-at-fever-game-181854773.html

This petition is to put pressure on the WNBA, the Indiana Fever, and the NBA to take swift action in banning Dave Portnoy from all NBA and WNBA events in the future. This will show a strong commitment to player safety and show that there are consequences for racist fan behavior, no matter who you are. Please sign and share - let's help keep the WNBA a safe space for all!
