I am a nature enthusiast, and it breaks my heart to see the natural beauty of Arkansas threatened by the rapid proliferation of data centers. These imposing structures, which are usually void of aesthetic value, disrupt the serene landscapes and vibrant ecosystems that make our state so unique. The installation of such facilities has adverse effects on our environment, and if we don't act now, these monstrosities will mar the beauty we cherish forever.

Data centers are notorious for consuming vast amounts of energy and water resources. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers account for about 2% of total electricity use in the United States, with figures rapidly escalating. Moreover, an individual data center may use hundreds of thousands of gallons of water per day to cool the equipment inside, putting significant strain on local water supplies. This is especially concerning given that the regions where these centers are often built could face water scarcity issues in the near future.

Additionally, the noise pollution created by these centers is a growing problem. The constant hum of cooling systems and generators disrupts the peace of our rural settings, affecting both human residents and wildlife. In many cases, local communities have reported a dramatic drop in the quality of life. Our landscapes, which should echo with the sounds of nature, are being drowned out by the mechanical drone of data centers.

Our state’s natural beauty is one of its most valuable assets, attracting tourists and providing solace to Arkansans alike. By allowing data centers to proliferate, we risk losing this irreplaceable charm. What draws people to Arkansas – its stunning vistas, bountiful wildlife, and tranquil environments, could be permanently altered if data centers are allowed to thrive unchecked.

We propose that Arkansas implements a strict ban on the establishment of new data centers and requires existing ones to meet stringent environmental regulations or relocate. By doing so, we can protect our landscapes and ensure that future generations can enjoy the natural splendor that we have been privileged to experience.
