Ban Congress from Trading Stock!
The Issue
Do you know how many legislative efforts there are to ban members of Congress from trading stock?
Ban Conflicted Trading Act (H.R. 1579), the TRUST in Congress Act (H.R. 336), the Bipartisan Ban on Congressional Stock Ownership Act (H.R. 6678), the STOCK Act 2.0 (H.R. 6694), the No Option for Stock Trading and Ownership as a Check to Keep Congress Clean Resolution (H.Res. 873), and the Restoring Trust in Public Servants Act (H.R. 6844), the list seemingly goes on.
Now we've got guys like Senator Hawley (R-MO) reintroducing the "PELOSI Act" to get his name in the headlines.
Meanwhile, Members of the House sent a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy requesting the Speaker to bring legislation to ban the trading of stocks by Members of Congress to the House floor for a vote as soon as possible.
And what has happened? NOTHING. N-O-T-H-I-N-G. Our representatives continue to introduce the same bills just to have their name on a piece of legislation. Yet, there seems to be little traction on any of it. Meanwhile, many of these bills do not define clear terms for who should be managing the blind trusts they advocate for.
Sign the petition to let Congress know they need to get serious about banning members from trading stock and lay out clear terms for blind trusts!
