Ban Cheltenham Festival horse racing completely

Ban Cheltenham Festival horse racing completely

The Issue

Horse racing, especially jump racing, results in unnecessary deaths of beautiful horses. These sentient beings are treated cruelly and forced to race, putting their lives in serious danger for the sake of so-called "entertainment". It's absolutely disgusting, and it must be stopped completely as horses do not deserve this cruel treatment. At the Cheltenham Festival, jump racing has been particularly lethal. According to Animal Aid, 69 horses have died at the Festival since March 2000, making it one of the deadliest racing events in the UK. In 2022 alone, three horses lost their lives during the event. For an event that is supposed to entertain, the loss of life is a tragic and unacceptable norm.

Horses are majestic creatures who have given humans companionship and work for centuries. They are sentient animals capable of feeling fear, stress, and pain, just like any other sentient being. To subject them to the risks of jump racing, where they could fall, sustain serious injuries, or even die, is cruel and unnecessary. This strictly goes against the animal welfare act 2006 and its welfare need to be free from pain injury and disease

Jump racing poses severe physical dangers to horses. The combination of high speeds and obstacles results in frequent falls and severe injuries. According to research conducted by the Captive Animals' Protection Society, the risk of fatal injury in a jump race is significantly higher than flat racing, with a reported fatality rate of 0.63 deaths per thousand starts compared to 0.44 in flat racing. Forcing horses into these perilous situations for sport, gambling, and entertainment is inexcusable.

The time for change is now. By banning Cheltenham Festival completely , we can protect these vulnerable animals from harm and set a crucial precedent for other racing events across the country. Instead of glorifying such races, we should invest in more humane and safer equestrian sports that promote the well-being of horses without compromising their safety.

Please join us in calling on the organisers of the Cheltenham Festival and relevant authorities to ban it   the event completely . Sign this petition to let your voice be heard and to help end the tradition of horse racing that costs precious lives unnecessarily.
