Ban cat declawing across Texas

The Issue

Declawing a cat isn’t a grooming procedure—it’s a painful amputation of their toe bones, often done just to protect furniture. It causes lasting physical and emotional harm, including chronic pain, lameness, and behavior problems. And it’s still legal in most of Texas.

But there’s hope.

Austin already banned this cruel practice. And now, Rhode Island has become the second U.S. state to outlaw cat declawing entirely. Texas can and should be next.

Cats across our state are still suffering because declawing is allowed in vet clinics and shelters. Many pet owners don’t realize the damage until it’s too late. There are safe, humane alternatives that don’t mutilate an animal for human convenience.

We are calling on the Texas Legislature to pass a statewide ban on cat declawing—except when it’s truly medically necessary for the cat’s own health.

Let’s follow Austin’s lead, and match Rhode Island’s compassion with bold statewide action. The cruelty of declawing has no place in modern animal care.

If Texas wants to be a leader in responsible pet ownership, this is our moment. Sign to demand a ban on cat declawing in Texas—because cats deserve protection, not pain.
