While the law presumes individuals innocent until proven guilty, the presence of such a high number of candidates with serious pending cases raises severe concerns about their ability to serve the public effectively and ethically. Violent offenses and serious charges are not just legal issues but moral concerns that question the integrity of our leaders.

Allowing individuals with serious criminal charges to contest elections gives them undue power and opportunity to influence legal outcomes and policy decisions in their favor. This perpetuates a cycle of corruption and maladministration, leaving the common citizens disillusioned and voiceless.

Therefore, we propose the implementation of stringent norms that bar candidates with serious criminal charges from contesting in elections unless they are acquitted by a court of law. Such a measure will deter those with criminal backgrounds from seeking public office and ensure that our leaders are of high moral standards.

Furthermore, we urge the Election Commission of India and the Government to work together in creating a transparent verification process for candidate backgrounds. Regular audits, publicly accessible records, and stringent eligibility criteria should be adopted to prevent the entry of individuals with dubious backgrounds into politics.
