Hello everyone,
Thank you so much for your support of Ban the Bottle SFU!
We are thrilled to announce that plastic water bottles will be phased out of vending machines and dining services on SFU campuses starting January 1st, 2021!
Since Ban the Bottle started this campaign in 2018, we worked in collaboration with SFU students, staff, and faculty, and many other allies and supporters to achieve this goal. Thank you to every single one of you that signed our petition, came to an event, chatted with us at a booth, or followed our journey on social media. A special thanks to SFU Ancillary Services, Sustainability Office, Simon Fraser Student Society, and Disability and Neurodiversity Alliance for their efforts to ensure all student voices were heard through this initiative. SFU listened to what their students wanted and they heard that single use plastics are a thing of the past.
Single-use water bottles will still be available for purchase at dining locations for those with accessibility needs - no questions asked.
We are excited to continue working with SFU to advance a circular economy - on campus and beyond! Follow us on Facebook or Instagram @banthebottlesfu to stay in the loop.
We hope the success of this initiative inspires you to work with your communities to advance a sustainable and just future for all!
Regards,
Ban the Bottle SFU
