Foxes were forced to run for their lives during a hunt which started in the village of Lisgoold in County Cork.
A Muskerry Foxhounds report in the Irish Field outlined that shortly after being released, the pack of hounds were “off on a screamer” after a fox.
Another unfortunate fox was chased in a glen where “marvellous woodland hunting ensued”.
According to the 22 November 2024 report, the pack of dogs “hunted their fox up and down the glen”.
Later, at Leadington Estate, the hunters and dogs disturbed another fox and “hunted on towards Richard Rowan’s, whose family from time immemorial have been steeped in hunting and racing”.
Among those at the hunt were hunt chairman Brendan Browne of Browne & Associates Certified Public Accountants (Ballincollig), “Dom Daly, long-time chairman of the [United] hunt and one of Cork’s leading property auctioneers [Dominic J Daly & Co. Auctioneers]” and huntsman Ken Grandon and “his daughter Faye, a national teacher in a nearby school”.
Shame on the Irish Government for allowing this bloodsport to continue. A RED C opinion poll, commissioned by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports, shows that a 77% majority (in both urban and rural areas) agree that the government should ban fox hunting. The poll found that just 12 per cent disagree with a ban.
