A fine of €5,000 has been issued after prohibited substance Clenbuterol was detected in 8 greyhounds, including one at Waterford track.

According to a July 2025 Greyhound Racing Control Committee report, “Clenbuterol – returned from a urine sample obtained from the greyhound Roanna Yeti at Waterford Greyhound Stadium on the 14th of December 2024 and returned from the greyhounds Roanna Anne, Roanna General, Roanna Halo, Roanna Con, Roanna Bolt, Roanna Balboa and Roanna Rex at the registered premises of Mr. Robbie O’Neill, Sweet Farm, St Johns, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford on the 28th January 2025."

Present at a Control Committee hearing were Robbie O’Neill - registered owner of Roanna Yeti, Roanna Anne, Roanna General, Roanna Halo, Roanna Con, Roanna Bolt, Roanna Balboa and Roanna Rex - and Adrian Maher, the registered joint-owner of Roanna Anne.

The committee "noted the evidence given by Adrian Maher in which he stated that they gave all the greyhounds in their kennel Ventipulmin granules on top of their feed every day for two weeks as they were treating them for the cough and it was hoped it would allow them to recover quicker."

The Greyhound Racing Control Committee heard evidence in relation to the laboratory analysis and about Clenbuterol and the effect it would have on greyhounds.

The Greyhound Racing Control Committee, "having considered all the evidence in this matter was satisfied that the case presented by Rásaíocht Con Éireann was proven". It added: "Taking all the circumstances into account, the Greyhound Racing Control Committee imposed a sanction payment of €5,000 in relation to the greyhound Roanna Yeti that was tested in competition at Waterford Greyhound Stadium on the 14th of December 2024. The Greyhound Racing Control Committee also imposed a sanction payment of €1,000 in relation to the out of competition samples taken at the registered premises of Mr. Robbie O’Neill on the 28th of January 2025."

The Committee also "noted that Mr. O’Neill and Mr. Maher had accepted the analysis and provided further evidence at the hearing and found that there was mitigating factors and reduced the total sanction payment from €6,000 to €5,000 and awarded costs of €1,000 in favour of Rásaíocht Con Éireann." It also sent a "censure to each of the owners in relation to this matter".

Roanna Yeti, Roanna Anne, Roanna General, Roanna Halo, Roanna Con, Roanna Bolt, Roanna Balboa and Roanna Rex are the latest in a growing number of greyhounds testing positive for prohibited substances at tracks and premises around Ireland.
