Coillte is being urged to reverse a shameful decision to allow recreational shooters in to two woods in County Kilkenny to blast animals to death.
Jenkinstown Woods and Tower Woods will be closed to the public on Tuesday 27 December 2022 and Sunday 8 January 2023 while shooters come in to gun down resident wildlife.
A notice on display at Jenkinstown Woods states "the public are asked not to enter the woods on the dates and times specified."
The semi-state forestry body ignored appeals last December and has again decided to give the go-ahead to the shooters this month and next.
In an appeal to Coillte CEO Imelda Hurley, we stated: "We implore Coillte to reverse the decision to allow animal killers to close down these woods to locals. Coillte woods are owned by the people of Ireland and it is an outrage that you feel you can allow a small minority who derive pleasure from killing to make the properties a no-go area."
What an outrage that Coillte is not only facilitating the killing of defenceless wildlife but also allowing shooters to close the woods down to members of the public.
