Right now, Minister Josepha Madigan is deciding whether to grant another licence to cruel hare coursers for their vile bloodsport.
The licence allows them to go into the countryside, frighten timid hares into nets, round them up and keep them in captivity for weeks before using them as live bait for their dogs to chase. At coursing meets around the country, the hares can be seen desperately running for their lives as a merciless mob cheer and gamble on which dogs forces the hare to change direction first. Video footage filmed by ICABS shows hares being hit, mauled, tossed into the air. Every coursing season, official records show that hares suffer painful injuries (such as broken bones and dislocated hips) and die.
Last year the coursing licence was effective in early August, which means a decision from Minister Madigan is imminent.

The RTE Investigates programme highlighted the cruelty, both to hares and greyhounds, and it also uncovered high profile coursing people engaging in "illegal" coursing.
The Minister has the prerogative to REFUSE THIS LICENCE. Please demand that she acts in accordance with the wishes of the compassionate majority, rejects the licence application and puts in place a long overdue ban on hare coursing and all forms of hare hunting.

Demand an immediate end to all state funding to the cruel greyhound industry, in which 6,000 dogs are killed every year because they're not fast enough to win.
Since 2001, the Irish Government has paid out around a quarter of a billion euros of taxpayers' money to greyhound racing, including €16.8 million for 2019. Hare coursing benefits massively from racing - the Irish Coursing Club holds the stud book and for every track dog registered, they receive a fee. Following the shocking RTE Investigates revelations about cruelty and killing, it is time for these grants to be finally ended. Not a single cent more of public funds should end up in this shameful industry.
