Dear Supporters, As promised, here is the update for my meeting with Lana Popham: Overall, the meeting went very well and I am thrilled to inform all of you that Lana is very supportive of what we are doing. Lana is highly educated on the welfare standards for egg laying hens as she has visited many different farms across BC. She feels that a transition to cage-free farming in BC would be best for hens and consumers, but that there must be a process in doing this rather than an outright ban. One thing she did promise me was that we will be working together in the future on this issue. Like I stated in the last update, a meeting with Lana was very important as she is the Opposition Spokesperson for Agriculture and Food. If an NDP Government is elected in the 2017 BC provincial election, Lana would likely become the Minister of Agriculture. She told me that if this happens, she would be thrilled to work with me further on this issue. If the Legislature is in session during October and November this year, I might do some work with her on this issue then. I feel very optimistic about the future of this petition and this movement, and I am glad to have Lana working with us.
