Around the globe 90% of hens live in cages. These cages are called "battery cages". They are cruel and inhumane and hens suffer enormous amounts for caged eggs. How are these cages so bad? First off there really small and cramped. Most hens get only the living space of an a4 sheet of printed paper. The hens can't move and exercise they can't even stretch their wings. This makes them very weak and it's not uncommon for the birds to have broken and crippled bones. Hens often get trampled on by other hens do to the intense crowding. Hens suffer constant scrapes and bruises. Because the hen never get to do anything but stand there the hens peck at the metal bars for hours and hours because that's the only thing they ever get to do. Hens become stress causing them to cluck constantly and many hens pluck out their own feathers because of the intense stress. Hens have no other choice but to urinate and defecate onto one another. The waste gets stuck in the birds feathers which irritates their skin. They can't bath or get clean their feathers in the cage. Many birds die of being trampled on, disease, and infection. Dead birds lay amongst the living as dead birds are rarely taken out of their cages. Hens suffer broken bones, sprains, infections, illnesses, wounds, ect that go untreated. The hens have to stand and rest on their friends dead bodies. They never get to see the light of day, feel the sun on their back, take a dust bath, or anything natural to them.                                                                                                                                                                        Second the cages wire causes the hens more pain. The wire floors hurt their feet which often becomes brittle and deformed for standing on wire for months. Their overgrown claws get stuck in the wire and the bird becomes trapped and would die of thirst and hunger. The wire mesh rubs against their skin destroying it and the birds sensitive skin get stuck in the wire.                                                                                                                                                     Third chickens are intelligent, curious, and sensitive animals they value life and want to explore and be happy. Hens aren't egg-laying machines they are living beings. Please end this cruelty.
