My heart aches as I recount the unbelievable number of animals being killed in animal shelters across the country. Innocent souls, from barely a few months old to as ancient as 15 years, are subject to this fate. What's even worse, some of these creatures are forced to spend their whole life in shelters, rejected time and time again for reasons that can only be described as ridiculous.

The root of this problem lies in the horrific practices of backyard breeding and subsequent animal abuse. The result? Millions upon millions of animals that should've been provided safety and shelter instead face a premature and often gruesome end. Disturbingly, many of these animals are mere byproducts of an illegal and unethical industry. Clear regulations and stringent enforcement are needed to put an end to this heart-wrenching issue.

Statistically, around 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized each year. But each number is not just a statistic, it's an individual life wrought with suffering, pain, and an unfair ending, largely due to illicit breeding practices and abuse (source: ASPCA). The time for change is now!
