BAN BACKYARD BREEDING

BAN BACKYARD BREEDING
The Issue
Backyard breeders will only ever have one goal in mind, MONEY.
Imagine a world where dogs are ethically bred for purpose and preservation, where they are health and temperament tested properly and potential homes are vetted to make sure they are suitable!
Where you are contracted to return the dog to the breeder if “unforseen circumstances” arise meaning you can no longer have the dogs.
No dogs filling up shelters.
This country is overrun by dogs needing homes as it is and the fact it is continuously being added to by irresponsible people looking for some quick cash is disgusting.
People are legally creating horrendous crosses like French bulldog x spaniel, rottie x chihuahua, dachshund x bully, you name it - they’ll breed it! With no thought to temperament, or health and the uneducated public are blindly buying these genetic mess’s with no thought of what issues may arise.
A lot of these dogs are at huge risk due to the mix combination in size, and having to have c- sections just to birth the litter!
Backyard breeding is fuelling dog attack stats, filling homes with out of control and unstable dogs, genetic messes, and owners are having to deal with some horrendous behavioural issues because of it - most who won’t and would rather give the dog up!
The ban needs to start specifically with websites such as pets4homes, preloved and Gumtree which are rife with weird and unnecessary overbred crosses with no health or temperment checks, who will surely end back on the website after a short period due to “change in circumstances”.
It’s time Backyard Breeding is BANNED.
Ethical and reputable breeders should be licensed properly and both should be enforced by law.
And any “accidental” litters should be fined heavily.
Dogs are PTS everyday due to overcrowded shelters, they’re abandoned in the streets or people will simply kill them themselves.
According to a recent report by the RSPCA, there were over 81,000 incidents of abandoned or stray animals in the UK in 2020 alone, a 15% increase from the previous year.
There isn't a single registry or database of homeless dogs, but it is estimated that approximately 100,000 dogs are in shelters and rescues at any time in the UK.
Police forces recorded 30,539 offences of an out-of-control dog causing injury to a person or guide dog in 2023 - a 21% increase from the 25,291 recorded in 2022. The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals estimates there were 11 million dogs in the UK in 2023, up 8% on the previous year.
BAN BACKYARD BREEDING and you will see most of the issues we deal with in regards to dog, drop immensely.
