Ban Artificial Intelligence from The Arts

The Issue

Although only human beings can create true Art, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now able to simulate artistic output, from paintings to prose to music, etc, in a way that makes it difficult to distinguish from human creativity.

It can only achieve this simulation by initially being fed or shown originally human-created artistic works. If it does this without informed consent, this is against GDPR (data law in EU/UK). It also effectively creates a copyright loophole if any of the material it used was within its copyright period. We can’t know these things from the end result.

We therefore call for a total ban on AI using any data from artistic works to generate new content. This is to protect original human creatives’ private information and intellectual property, the creative industries and The Arts as a whole.

This ban needs to be incorporated into the Berne Convention and data protection laws worldwide.
