Ban Animal Tethering in Charleston

Ban Animal Tethering in Charleston
Why this petition matters
Please sign this petition to tell the City of Charleston and Charleston County that its people want to ban animal tethering within city limits.
Charleston is known as a dog-friendly place to live and destination. The City of Charleston and Charleston Police Department are currently rewriting their animal laws. Let's give them our support to ensure this passes quickly and continues the people of Charleston's pro animal advocacy stance.
"Chaining" or "tethering" refers to the practice of fastening an animal to a stationary object and leaving it unattended. Over a period of time, this can negatively affect an animal's physical and psychological well-being.
Nearby cities such as Mt. Pleasant, Aiken, and Greer have implemented a ban or limited tethering of animals. In neighboring North Carolina, towns and counties like Asheville, Cary, and New Hanover have bans on tethering. Savannah, Georgia, comparable in many ways to Charleston, has also instituted a ban. Additional municipalities that have laws or ordinances against tethering are available here on PETA's website.
