The Issue

I am a devoted pet owner and have been blessed with the companionship of two delightful cats and two loyal dogs. My heart aches at the mere thought of these dear creatures, or any other animal, suffering through the horrors of laboratory testing. Animals, whether they are our pets or wildlife, deserve our love and protection, not exploitation in laboratories for testing purposes.

Animal testing is an outdated practice that inflicts unacceptable cruelty upon sentient beings. It is estimated that over 100 million animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and mice, are subjected to testing every year in the U.S. alone. These animals often undergo painful procedures, suffer from severe distress, and are kept in deplorable conditions—all for experiments that frequently have more effective and humane alternatives.

Science and technology have advanced significantly, to the point where animal testing is no longer necessary. Methods such as in vitro testing, computer modeling, and the use of human cell cultures offer more accurate and ethical solutions. Countries like Norway and India have already taken steps to reduce or eliminate animal testing, proving that it can be done successfully.

Our state has a responsibility to join this progressive movement. We must enact legislation that bans animal testing and holds companies and institutions accountable for their actions. By doing so, we not only protect animals from unnecessary suffering but also encourage innovation in the field of scientific research, shifting focus to humane and forward-thinking methodologies.

Join me in advocating for this crucial change. Your signature can send a powerful message to our lawmakers that the time to end animal suffering through testing is now. Together, we can make our state a leader in humane practices and prove that compassion and science can coexist. Please sign this petition to ban animal testing in our state and support a future where no animal needs to suffer for the sake of research.
