The Issue

Following the disturbing incident where a religious exemption for practising Sikhs to carry a kirpan led to the tragic death of Henry Nowak, an innocent young man, it is evident that there are no justifiable circumstances for the carrying of offensive weapons in public. This tragedy reveals the urgent need to revisit laws that permit the carrying of weapons and blades for religious purposes.

While respecting cultural and religious practices is important, public safety must be a priority. No person's life should be endangered by another carrying a lethal weapon, regardless of their intentions.

Providing exceptions for religious or any other reasons creates confusion and loopholes that can be exploited. By banning all weapons and blades in the public domain, we take a definitive step towards ensuring public safety and protecting innocent lives.

I urge our government to evaluate and amend current legislation to ensure no weapons are allowed in public spaces, thereby preventing further tragedies in the future. Join us in making a safer world for everyone by signing this petition, calling for a comprehensive ban on all weapons and blades in the public domain.
