Like so many of you I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the horrific murder of beautiful young Brianna Ghey, Brianna was brutally murdered by two 15 year old teenagers on 11th February 2023, in Warrington, England. Brianna herself was only 16 years old; a young and beautiful, transgender girl, who was 'absolutely full of life'.  Brianna's Mother, Ester Ghey, is appealing to the British Government to ban social media apps to all under 16 years olds.  It is in support of Ester, Brianna's Mother and indeed Brianna, that I am launching this petition today.

BAN ALL SOCIAL MEDIA APPS on SMARTPHONES for CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16 . Lets get this done please, its way too vital to ignore.

GET RID OF SMARTPHONES for kids and INTRODUCE BASIC MOBILE PHONES that Children can carry and use SAFELY.

As a concerned grandparent, with 4 grandchildren, I am deeply worried about the potential risks my grandchildren face due to access to damaging online material via their smartphones. Super rich, money minded people continue exposing our children to inappropriate content and potential harm online for their own financial gain. 

In my mind this CONSTITUTES THE LEGAL AND FINANCIALLY REWARDING, ABUSE OF CHILDREN IN THE UK.  A FREE REIN TO CAUSE SERIOUS HARM TO OUR CHILDREN BY WAY OF MENTAL ABUSE, PHYSICAL ABUSE, PHYSICOLICAL ABUSE, SEXUAL ABUSE AND EVEN DEATH.  IT HAS TO STOP!

According to a recent Ofcom report 100% of adolescents (age 10 onwards) have a mobile phone in the UK, some acquire their first phones under the age of 10 years. 

By age 11, 91% of children in the UK own a smartphone, according to data from the country's communications regulator, Ofcom. 

The viewing of videos online using video-sharing platforms such as YouTube or TikTok remained a near-universal activity (96%).

This constant exposure can and WILL lead to harmful effects such as cyberbullying, exposure to explicit content, even online predation, potentially deadly influences/influencers and pre-meditated murder.

We need urgent action from the British Government to MAKE IT LAW in the UK that technology companies and regulatory bodies STOP ACCESS TO SOCIAL MEDIA BY THE PERMANENT BAN ON SOCIAL MEDIA APPS.

We propose the development of Child Safe Mobile Phones that allow children only to phone and text parent/carer approved contacts. These phones would provide our children with the necessary communication tools while protecting them from the SERIOUS RISKS TO THEIR LIVES of the internet.
