BAN all Sexually Explicit/ Harmful Content on ALL Major Social Media Platforms🚫‼️
The Issue
My patience has turned to frustration with the constant bombardment of sexual content on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. As a concerned individual, and as a parent, & sexual assault survivor. I consider it highly inappropriate to expose users, especially our young minds, to indecent, porn-like content, and explicit sexual material. In a digital age defined by technological advances and various sources of entertainment, social media platforms have become a hotbed for sexual content; this prompts a call for an immediate and stringent scrutiny. It is imperative from a moral standpoint, as reported by a study that shows exposure to sexual content can negatively influence children and adolescents' mental health (American Psychological Association, 2007). Sharing explicit content also fosters a culture that doesn't respect the nuances of consent, thereby normalizing and creating an environment that is conducive to sexual harassment or even more serious crimes. In 2019, the Internet Watch Foundation reported that it had found and deleted 132,636 URLs containing child sexual abuse images and videos from the internet, highlighting the urgent need for stricter regulations (Internet Watch Foundation, 2019). Therefore, it is our collective responsibility to shield our public sphere from indecency. We call on all stakeholders, including social media giants, users, and regulators, to set a decisive standard and strictly ban sexual content on these platforms. They say they are implementing Safety Rules, and regulations. The truth is these platforms continue to allow this content. It’s been proven that they cannot control/ Regulate their platforms. It keeps continuing, and until someone takes a Stand, things will never change. I want to be apart of a solution. We the People Demand action now to uphold our societal values and protect vulnerable people from explicit content. This fight is for everyone who believes in the importance of maintaining public decency. Sign this petition to make our voices heard.
