The Issue

As a resident of Glendale, AZ, I am deeply concerned about the use of fireworks in our city. Living in a desert climate significantly increases the risk of fire and these fireworks pose an unnecessary threat to our safety and environment. Not only do they terrify pets and trigger PTSD symptoms for many individuals, but they also disrupt sleep patterns and create smoke clouds that make it difficult to breathe outdoors.

Moreover, the local police department is inundated with calls related to firework disturbances rather than focusing on more serious issues affecting our community. According to National Fire Protection Association statistics from 2017-2021, fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires per year nationwide (NFPA). Given our dry climate here in Glendale, we are particularly vulnerable.

There is no justifiable reason for this risk when safer alternatives exist that can still allow us to celebrate special occasions without compromising public safety or peace.

Therefore, I urge you to support this petition calling for a ban on all fireworks in Glendale year-round. This will protect not only our environment but also the well-being of all residents who call this city home. Please sign this petition today!
