The Issue

Camera-enabled AI smart glasses are entering classrooms across the country.

These wearable devices can discreetly record video, capture audio, and use artificial intelligence to analyze what they see.

Students  - particularly girls and young women - are reporting that they feel constantly watched. Some say the devices are being used to approach and record classmates without clear consent.

Classrooms are meant to be safe spaces for learning, discussion, and personal growth — not surveillance zones.

When students worry they are being recorded, it changes how they participate. It discourages open discussion. It creates anxiety. It opens the door to harassment, doxxing, and misuse of recorded content.

Teachers and professors should not have to redesign their lesson plans around wearable cameras. Students should not have to wonder whether a private conversation or classroom debate is being captured and uploaded.

Innovation should not come at the expense of privacy and safety — especially for minors.

We call on school boards, university leaders, and state education officials to prohibit the use of AI-enabled smart glasses and other wearable recording devices in K-12 classrooms and university lecture halls.

Education requires trust. Trust requires privacy.

Protect students. Protect classrooms. Ban AI smart glasses in schools.
