We are calling for a ban on 5G in New Zealand.

5G infrastructure is being rolled out across our communities with limited public awareness, minimal transparency, and unresolved questions about long-term health and environmental impacts.

Wireless radiofrequency and electromagnetic field (RF/EMF) exposure is increasing rapidly in homes, workplaces, schools, and public spaces. Current safety standards are largely based on short-term thermal effects and do not adequately address long-term or cumulative exposure. Independent scientific research into non-thermal biological effects remains ongoing and contested.

Despite this uncertainty, 5G deployment continues.

We believe this approach is unacceptable.

 
Health effects under investigation
A growing body of peer-reviewed research and international case reports has raised concerns about possible health effects associated with RF/EMF exposure.

Symptoms reported in some studies and population observations include:

• Headaches and migraines
• Sleep disturbance and chronic fatigue
• Cognitive and concentration difficulties
• Tinnitus
• Neurological and nervous system effects

Research in this area is ongoing and findings are not yet fully resolved. However, many scientists and health professionals support applying the precautionary principle, particularly where exposure is widespread, involuntary, and long-term.

 
What we are asking for
We call on the New Zealand Government to:

• Ban the deployment and operation of 5G technology in New Zealand
• Halt the construction of new 5G infrastructure
• Remove existing 5G infrastructure
• Prioritise health, safety, and environmental protection over rapid technological rollout

This petition reflects growing public concern and will be submitted to the New Zealand Parliament as part of a formal request for action.

 
Why this matters
Exposure to RF/EMF radiation is largely unavoidable. Communities are not given meaningful choice or informed consent, and children and workers are among those most exposed.

When long-term health effects remain uncertain, continuing deployment without precaution places the burden of risk on the public.
