I remember vividly the day I visited 4chan for the first time. An innocent click and what I was faced with filled me with disgust and contempt. The content posted seemed inhumane, crueler than anything I had been expecting. It was like people were parading their darkest intentions as if they were adoring pet pictures, and it horrified me.

4chan, as an internet platform, has long been a controversial site due to the often inappropriate, violent, and profoundly disturbing material that gets shared by its users. The frequency that such content appears and the laissez-faire approach by the platform administrators render 4chan a questionable space in modern-day internet society (Intelligence Report, Southern Poverty Law Center, 2015).

This petition isn't just a call a call to censor 4chan entirely, but this type type of content being hosted at all from something like a Facebook thread. Other platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, have adopted policies to combat hate speech and disturbing content. Why should 4chan just allow this type of content to people so easily.
