The owner of "Hooper House," the building at 100 e 23rd Street where Station North Sound is located, intends to build a bar on the first floor of the building. The noise from foot traffic and normal bar operations would make it impossible to continue operating the recording studio at this location and attempting to soundproof against this noise would be extremely expensive, with no guarantee of success in an old, steam-heated building with pipes (that carry noise) running throughout.

Before Station North Sound started operating at 100 e 23rd, the studio was originally built by Morphius Records and operated as Lord Baltimore Recording, where many local and national acts recorded, including Beach House, and M.I.A. The studio went into a period of partial-dormancy before I refurbished, rewired, and re-equipped the space with recording gear and instruments. For the past 13 months, I have worked to create a music recording space that offers a wealth of creative opportunities to local musicians at rates that are accessible and affordable. I would like to be able to continue this work and not have it replaced by a bar.

There are fewer and fewer spaces where musicians and artists can express themselves. We don't need to lose another one. There are lots of bars, and lots of other places for new bars. 

Due to the efforts of Morphius, Lord Baltimore, and myself, the studio has become one of the best spaces to record in Baltimore. There are not many like it, and there are none that charge as little as I do. This studio is an important resource for the community, and I hope to be able to make it more valuable and more accessible as time goes on. Building a bar in the building and destroying the studio would be a tragic waste. Let's not let it happen.
