Let Brittany Hall make her speech

The Issue

Brittany Hall is a senior at Foley High School. She is also class president of her class. Brittany was elected president by her class. Upon winning office she began trying to do things which needed to be done for her class. She painted the senior wall after a long awaited time by herself. She designed class t-shirts by herself. She also performed community service to show students and people even if you go through some stumps in your life you can still become a leader. During the last 12 days of her senior year she was informed by the principal of Foley High School that she was not allowed to say a speech of her own to her class during graduation. She would also not be recognized during the ceremony. It is tradition for the class president to say a speech during the ceremony. The principal's reasoning for not allowing her to say her speech is due to her attendance. Which most of her attendance is doctor's excused. During this meeting between Brittany and the principal she was belittled and disrespected. When trying to speak she was informed by the principal "your best bet is to be quiet!"

We are concerned because of the unfairness that has came about from the principal. Last year the class president created and participated in a "senior walk out" where certain seniors would leave campus at a certain time without permission. Her speech was not taken. The previous year president before that left the hotel in which his class was staying for their senior trip, unsupervised, to go party. His speech was not take away. So Brittany should have her speech taken away due to absences that were excused?

Please sign this petition in effort to help Brittany be recognized and say the speech she has earned during her graduation ceremony.
