The Bakersfield City School District Board and Trustees are proposing to change the boundaries and district in which children are eligible to apply for Downtown Elementary. Furthermore, BCSD is proposing major policy change that will remove current enrollment criteria and eliminate 7th and 8th grade at Downtown Elementary.

Our beloved Downtown Elementary, although small is very mighty. It is built off of the backbone of strong educators and the love and dedication of parents who work together as a micro-community lifting up and nurturing the development of our children. Additionally, this school promotes inclusivity and diversity in the student body. We have students and families that come from all different walks of life promoting a culture for compassion and understanding of others. Lastly, this school has had a phenomenal impact on the Downtown geographical area. It has inspired revitalization of this community and promotes a positive cultural movement in the Downtown area including promoting local Downtown businesses. By changing these policies and boundary rules, we will be negatively impacting all students, their families and the local community that are apart of the Downtown family. Community and connectedness builds character and the future leaders of our great city. Please do not take away this opportunity for our youth.
