Community Petition: Protect Our Kids at Bairnsdale Secondary College

We, the parents, carers, and community members of Bairnsdale and East Gippsland, are deeply concerned and frightened by what is happening at Bairnsdale Secondary College.

Our children are not safe.

There have been repeated serious physical altercations, ongoing drug issues, and a general atmosphere that feels out of control. Too many students are scared to go to school, and too many parents are sick with worry every day they send their kids through those gates.

This is not a one-off problem — it’s become a pattern, and it’s only getting worse. The school’s duty of care must come first, and right now it feels like that duty is being neglected. A school should be a safe place for learning and growing, not a place of fear and harm.

We are calling for immediate action from the Department of Education, Bairnsdale Secondary College leadership, and local representatives to:

• Step in and restore safety and order immediately.

•Constant Security or Safety personnel in or around the school

• Investigate ongoing violence, drug activity, and staff responses.

• Increase supervision and security at all times.

• Provide real support and counselling for students and staff who feel unsafe.

• Keep parents informed with open, honest communication.

We can’t wait for another child to be hurt before something changes. The safety and wellbeing of our young people must come before anything else.

We urge our community — parents, grandparents, carers, teachers, and residents — to stand together and demand action now.

Let’s make our voices heard before it’s too late.
