The officers of all PASSHE schools (Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester) are currently protected under Act 195. The problem with this is that the officers are only being recognized as security guards when they are in fact sworn and armed officers. The officers of PASSHE schools are fighting to be recognized under Act 111 which protects policemen and firemen. Under Act 111 they will be able to be protected under the Heart and Lung Act which provides a safety and insurance for officers and their families if something were to happen to them while on duty. Even in non-threatening situations, our police officers are at a constant risk. Currently, more than 200 officers and families are being negatively affected due to not being protected under Heart and Lung.
