Subject: Wanted to put forth some key points to help improve and encourage players who are serious about badminton as a career.

Dear Sir,

We are players who have managed to accomplish some milestones in badminton with support from our parents, friends and well-wishers & some of us with own management.

We want BAI to take note of our suggestions debate them and incorporate them. Based on our experience so far, we are very sure that these would help/encourage existing and upcoming badminton players in India.

BAI is also welcome to call for a discussion on the below mentioned points from the top ranked players in the country.

Our request is that the discussion/debate should be done in a time bound manner and the points shortlisted and implemented at the earliest.

We have categorized the points under various topics and the same are elaborated below:

Participation in International Tournaments

Eligibility criteria to participate in International tournaments should be only for players who are in the BAI ranking List and/or are in the top 200 in the BWF rankings and there should be no other restrictions.

Eligibility criteria for individual events at International tournaments like Common Wealth, ABC, World Championship, Olympics should be based on only BWF ranking.

At least three international tournaments should be funded for the top BAI/BWF ranked players who are not in the national team in each calendar year.

National Championships

Allow BAI ranked players to Participate in Qualifying rounds of National Championship as Players may miss Zonals due to various Reasons taking in to consideration that sports Career is too Short and National Championship Carries many athletes Dream to Win It.

Selection criteria for National team

Selection criteria for National team should be based on national ranking and performance. The specific tournaments in any given calendar year wherein performance of the players would be used as the criteria should be clearly marked by BAI at the time of publishing the calendar of tournaments for the year so that things are clear and transparent. This would also ensure that all top players would have to play the national tournaments that will count towards the selection and things are not taken for granted.

To develop/improve badminton

Organize national camps in at least four centers in India (North, South, East and West)

Conduct National camp for players who are in Top 24 BAI or Top 100 bwf ranked players in Singles, doubles categories in January according to the calendar year.

Identify the tier 2/3 cities in every state and conduct summer/winter badminton camps there to encourage/groom local talent.

Training/Certification camps for coaches

Conduct BAI coaching courses similar to the BWF training courses in tier 2/3 cities in every state in a given calendar year.

Doubles players

The importance/focus on doubles in the country must be brought on par with the focus/attention given to singles players/events. What needs to be realized is that it is impossible to get a medal in any team event, without an equally competent/competitive doubles team as in the case of singles. So there needs to be adequate focus on doubles. Suggestions for these are:
Conduct tournaments for seniors’ doubles category with prize money more than  the prize money awarded in the case of singles players.
Separate doubles national camps in the North, South, East and West.

We Players of BAI Request you closely look into above. We all are in Great Hope that best decision taken which will encourage every Badminton Athletes and Growth of Indian Badminton.

Regards
