So what does last night’s decision mean for us? It means we keep moving forward.We keep showing up. They didn't tell us no.

They told us they don't know enough on the topic. They want to hear from their constituents. They want the city manager to put together a preliminary budget. And talk about it again in 30 days.

Our group put together a large packet of information. We researched what other cities are doing. We talked to other cities' enforcement and permitting agencies who allow chickens to get the realistic numbers. We have been working on this issue for years collectively as a group and we all know the list of benefits by heart. We know the data. 

But as a city the idea of backyard chickens is very new. Will it cost $100 a year to enforce? Will it cost 1000 dollars? A million dollars? They can't make a decision based on hypothetical numbers and misinformation. So they are taking a month to do some due diligence. In the interim we have offered to help them research. We have provided them with lots of data to go through, and in a month we will reconvene and hopefully keep moving forward. The issue isn’t about chickens, it’s about finding a way to allow them in a way that works for everyone involved. And we are in it for the long haul.
