B&B PATRIOT PROTECTIVE SHIELD
The Issue
B&B PATRIOTIC PROTECTIVE SHIELD
A PUBLIC CALL TO ACTION FOR ACCESS, DOCUMENTATION, PROTECTION & HUMAN DIGNITY
WHEN ACCESSIBILITY FAILS, THERE SHOULD BE A WAY TO DOCUMENT IT.
The B&B PATRIOT PROTECTIVE SHIELD
SPEAKS UP FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
I am Lesley Monec McKeithan, Lead Advocate, and I am asking the public to stand with me in bringing a disability-access issue into the public conversation.
I am not speaking about something I heard about from someone else.
I am speaking about experiences I personally encountered while attempting to access public services, exercise disability accommodations, submit documentation, communicate with government and public institutions, and conduct official business.
Where these encounters were recorded, the recordings provide contemporaneous evidence of what occurred.
Today's fast pace moving world has failed to consider the physical needs of those living with a Disability. In fact, just the opposite, those of us living with a disability have been Disabled by the system that is designed to assist.
Unintentionally in some cases, intentionally in others, when it comes to filling a complaint against one of their own.
That is precisely why I believe we need better assistive technology.
THIS IS WHY THE B&B PATRIOTIC PROTECTIVE SHIELD IS NEEDED.
A person living with a disability person should not have to depend entirely upon memory to explain what happened during a stressful official encounter. This disables that person.
A person living with a disability should not have to wonder whether their communication was documented accurately. This disables that person.
A visually impaired person should not have to navigate inaccessible paperwork without appropriate assistance. This disables that person
.
A person who becomes nonverbal or overwhelmed under extreme stress should not lose their ability to communicate simply because they cannot speak at that moment. This person has become Disabled..
STSD
Sudden Traumatic Stress Disorder
Triggered by disputed Deprivation tactics followed by egregious behavior leading to official misconduct and discrimination.
And when an accessibility dispute occurs, there should be a responsible way to preserve an accurate contemporaneous record.
THE B&B PATRIOTIC PROTECTIVE SHIELD IS DESIGNED AROUND THAT PRINCIPLE.
The proposed Shield would combine accessibility assistance, hands-free communication, document-reading capabilities, voice assistance, and carefully controlled evidence-preservation technology in a wearable system.
Its purpose is not to speak over disabled people.
Its purpose is to help disabled people communicate, understand, document, and participate.
During most official business, a person's livelihood is determined in some way or another.
When it comes to those living with a disability, special provision are legally set in place to even the playing field.
However, some officials who have been given authority, have overstepped their assigned duties and have used bias opinions to view these Provisional Disability Entitlements as ' handouts ."
Stripping away the Provision and Protection and Constitutional Human Civil Rights, required and ENTITLED TO EVERY HUMAN BEING, IN ORDER TO REMAIN HUMANE.
WE ARE ASKING THE PUBLIC TO JOIN US
This initiative is bigger than one person.
It is bigger than one building.
It is bigger than one agency.
It is bigger than Georgia.
We are asking Americans to join a public movement to explore how responsible assistive technology can help protect accessibility and human dignity for people with disabilities.
SIGN THE PETITION.
Add your voice to the demand for greater public awareness, research, development, accessibility testing, and responsible implementation of assistive technology.
SHARE THE MESSAGE.
Help bring this conversation to disability organizations, families, advocates, attorneys, technology developers, businesses, community leaders, and policymakers.
SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT.
Help raise funding for research, engineering, prototypes, accessibility testing, privacy and cybersecurity safeguards, legal review, manufacturing research, and community outreach.
SUPPORT THE FUNDRAISER GALA.
We are seeking community partners, sponsors, donors, businesses, organizations, artists, technology professionals, and philanthropic supporters who want to help bring this initiative before a broader audience.
FROM DOCUMENTED EXPERIENCE TO PUBLIC SOLUTION
My personal experiences are part of the reason this project exists.
The recordings are part of the documentation.
The proposed Shield is part of the solution we are seeking to develop.
The larger question is one that affects millions of Americans:
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A DISABLED PERSON NEEDS AN ACCOMMODATION, BUT THE SYSTEM DOES NOT RESPOND THE WAY IT SHOULD?
We should not wait until after the encounter to discover that there is no reliable record.
We should build accessibility into the process itself.
THE SHIELD'S PURPOSE
The B&B Patriotic Protective Shield is envisioned as a wearable ADA assistive system capable of helping users:
READ documents and information.
HEAR important information through accessible audio.
COMMUNICATE when speech is difficult.
REQUEST accommodations.
NAVIGATE difficult administrative situations.
DOCUMENT relevant encounters through lawful, privacy-conscious recording.
PRESERVE contemporaneous information for later review.
ACCESS assistance without having to rely entirely upon another person.
The exact hardware and software specifications will require professional engineering, accessibility testing, privacy review, cybersecurity review, and legal analysis.
That development process is exactly what we are asking the public to help make possible.
THIS IS ABOUT MORE THAN TECHNOLOGY
This is about whether disabled Americans can participate meaningfully in the systems that affect their lives.
It is about the person who cannot see the paperwork.
The person who cannot speak during a crisis.
The person who becomes overwhelmed during a confrontation.
The person who needs information explained differently.
The person who needs an accommodation recognized.
The person who needs a reliable record of what happened.
ACCESSIBILITY MUST INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE AND BE HEARD.
HELP US TAKE THIS NATIONAL
We want to develop this initiative beyond a single community.
We want to connect with:
Disabled Americans and disability advocates
Families and caregivers
ADA accessibility professionals
Assistive-technology developers
Engineers and hardware designers
AI and accessibility researchers
Cybersecurity professionals
Privacy professionals
Attorneys and legal advocates
Community organizations
Businesses and corporate sponsors
Philanthropists and foundations
Artists and entertainment partners
Veterans and veteran-support organizations
Educational institutions
Responsible technology companies
WE NEED PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP BUILD IT.
WE NEED PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP FUND IT.
WE NEED PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP TEST IT.
WE NEED PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP MAKE THE PUBLIC HEAR ABOUT IT.
THE RECORD MATTERS
The B&B Patriotic Protective Shield is founded upon a simple idea:
If an accessibility encounter matters enough to affect someone's rights, dignity, safety, benefits, housing, or access to public services, there should be a responsible way for that person to preserve what happened.
The objective is not to manufacture accusations.
The objective is to reduce uncertainty through contemporaneous documentation.
The objective is not to replace courts, investigators, attorneys, agencies, or human judgment.
The objective is to give disabled people another accessibility tool that can help them communicate and preserve information for appropriate review.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT
If you believe disabled Americans deserve meaningful access to the systems they depend upon:
SIGN THE PETITION.
If you believe assistive technology deserves greater investment:
SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT FUND.
If you believe this conversation deserves national attention:
If your organization can help:
BECOME A PARTNER.
If your business wants to support the effort:
BECOME A SPONSOR.
If you are a technology professional:
HELP US DEVELOP THE SHIELD.
If you are a disability advocate:
HELP US REACH YOUR COMMUNITY.
FROM ONE DOCUMENTED EXPERIENCE TO A NATIONAL CONVERSATION
I am asking you to stand with me—not because you have to accept anyone's word without examination, but because documented experiences deserve to be examined, accessibility problems deserve to be discussed, and disabled people deserve tools that help them participate fully.
Let's bring the evidence forward.
Let's bring the technology forward.
Let's bring the disability community into the development process.
Let's raise the resources necessary to build responsibly.
Let's create partnerships.
Let's hold public conversations.
And let's work toward a future in which a disabled person's ability to communicate, document, and participate does not depend upon whether someone else understands their disability.
B&B PATRIOTIC PROTECTIVE SHIELD
ACCESSIBILITY • ASSISTANCE • DOCUMENTATION • DIGNITY
SIGN. SUPPORT. SHARE. BUILD.
Help us take this conversation from one documented experience to a nationwide movement for accessible assistive technology.
That wording preserves the core of what you are saying: “I was there. I experienced it. It was recorded. The recording is why I can document it. And the Shield is intended to give other disabled people that same ability to create an accurate contemporaneous record.”
Thank you kindly for hearing my plea for change.
GOD BLESS.
Sincerely, Lesley Monec' Mckeithan
