Dear Community,
As part of our Department of Decolonial Economics, founded in 2019, we began a series of workshops to self-train ourselves in decoloniality, mestizaje, racism, privilege and myriad oppressions, among other topics, to identify what aspects cross us, and what to do with that. During a meeting, while compañera Erin was talking about mestizaje, compañera Chepis was surprised by what she was hearing. She shared with us what Cambalache has meant to her from that experience; "The Cambalache for me is a learning space, one day in the workshop with the Department of Decolonial Economics we talked about mestizaje, it touched me because I had lived it in my own flesh, I just did not know what it was called, they wanted to disappear us, to take away our identity as indigenous people, to take away our roots but instead, here, we continue resisting capitalism. That is why this space is important, to continue to make this kind of thing visible.”
Compañeres, we want to continue learning together, to continue promoting other ways of relating to all living beings, with respect, love and social justice.
Each one of us has been affected by violence in a different way, because our origins and experiences are different, but we have also found similarities, pains and contradictions in all that we have been taught throughout our racist colonial education, but together we are healing. Moreover, in this insistence, we have learned to question our own history, as women immersed in a patriarchal and racist capitalist system.
Since El Cambalache opened its doors in 2015, we have not turned back, our heart is set on collective creation, from the community and for the community, and that is our main reason to persist.
Along the way we have learned a lot, we have had joys, sadness, discomfort and many self-managing challenges, mainly in relation to keep us in the space, because having a place like this, which does not generate profits to the capitalist system, but on the contrary, proposes that money does not mediate our well-being. It makes it difficult for someone from above to look and see what they can do for us and the community. The truth is that we have never wanted the support of any government, which does nothing but co-opt the spaces for its own benefit. For us it is fundamental to maintain our autonomy, our horizontality and collectivity.

Thank you very much for all the collective effort to make it possible for El Cambalache to have its own home, we want to update you that so far we have 117 donors in GoFundme and 600+ people have signed our petition in change. Your show of solidarity allows us to move forward to embrace the dream of having our own space, for us it is our only option now, so we move forward with the Cambalache dream, making small cracks in the patriarchal capitalist system, from our small but valuable trench of El Cambalache.

Querida comunidad,
Como parte del departamento de economías decoloniales que fundamos en el año 2019, empezamos una serie de talleres para autoformarnos en decolonialidad, mestizaje, racismo, privilegios y opresiones, entre otros temas, para identificar qué aspectos nos atraviesan, y qué hacer con eso. Durante un encuentro, mientras la compañera Erin hablaba de mestizaje, la compañara Chepis se mostró sorprendida de lo que estaba escuchando, y nos comparte lo que para ella ha significado el Cambalache a partir de esa experiencia; " El cambalache para mí es un espacio de aprendizaje, en el taller del departamento decolonial un día se dió un taller de mestizaje, a mí me atravesó porque lo viví en carne propia, solo que no sabía como se llamaba, nos querían desaparecer, quitar nuestro identidad como indígenas, quitar nuestras raíces pero aquí seguimos resistiendo al capitalismo. Por eso es importante este espacio, para seguir visibilizando este tipo de cosas".
Compañeres, queremos seguir aprendiendo juntas, seguir promoviendo otras formas de relacionarnos con todos los seres vivos, con respeto, amor y justicia social. A cada una de nosotras las violencias nos han atravesado de forma distinta, porque nuestros orígenes y experiencias son distintas, pero también hemos encontrado similitudes, dolores y contradicciones en todo lo que se nos ha enseñado a lo largo de nuestra educación colonial racista, pero juntas nos vamos sanando. Además, en ésta insistencia, hemos aprendido a cuestionarnos nuestra propia historia, como mujeres inmersas en un sistema capitalista patriarcal y racista.
Desde que el Cambalache abrió sus puertas en el año 2015, no hemos dado marcha atrás, nuestro corazón está puesto en el hacer colectivo, desde la comunidad y para la comunidad, y esa es nuestra principal razón para persistir.
En el camino hemos aprendido mucho, hemos tenido alegrías, tristezas, molestias y muchos desafíos autogestivos, principalmente en relación a mantener-nos en el espacio, porque el tener un lugar como éste, que no genera ganancias al sistema capitalista, si no que al contrario, propone que el dinero no medie para que la gente pueda llegar, inter-cambiar, y crear otras relaciones de apoyo mutuo, hacen difícil que alguien de arriba mire a ver qué puede hacer por nosotras y la comunidad, y la verdad es que nunca hemos querido el apoyo de ningún gobierno, que lo que hace es coptar los espacios para su propio beneficio. Para nosotras es fundamental mantener nuestra autonomía, nuestra horizontalidad y colectividad.
