Horseracing is more than just a sport – it’s a cherished part of British culture and heritage. As our second most attended spectator sport, it brings joy and excitement to millions of fans, supports 85,000 jobs and contributes over £4 billion to our economy each year.

But British racing faces an unprecedented threat – a tax raid on the sport. The Government wants to tax betting on horseracing at the same rate as online casinos. This proposed ‘racing tax’ would cost the sport at least £66 million a year and threaten thousands of jobs, from stable staff and farriers to small-town hotels and local pubs.

On top of other policy changes which have undermined the finances of racing in recent years, the 'racing tax' could be the final straw and tip the sport into irreversible decline.

We call on the Government to rethink this policy. Racing is already struggling. Taxing betting on horseracing any further will impact thousands of jobs and livelihoods and permanently undermine a much-loved part of British heritage and culture.
