AXA stop financing weapons manufacturers directly facilitating Israel’s genocide in Gaza!
A new investigation has uncovered that French Insurer AXA has at least $150 million (£118 million) of investments in eleven weapons manufacturers that are arming Israel during its genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza and its massacre in Lebanon.
The research also revealed evidence of investments in companies producing controversial weapons, including depleted uranium, directly in breach of AXA’s policies.
AXA’s biggest presence in England is their sponsorship of Liverpool Football Club and the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.
AXA’s website explains the partnership with LFC is “built on shared values: both AXA and Liverpool FC work with integrity and courage, having strong moral and ethical principles.” According to AXA’s website, AXA’s mission statement proclaims their purpose “is to act for human progress by protecting what matters… We believe that people progress when they feel secure.”
We, as Liverpool Football Club fans and residents of the City of Liverpool, do not want our club or our city linked to bombs and weapons killing innocent people.
-We stand against the genocidal war on 2.3 million Palestinians, many of them children. We do not want these atrocities to continue knowing one of our club’s sponsors is bankrolling weapons manufacturers directly facilitating these atrocity crimes. . We believe in Freedom, Justice and Equality for all. These are our ethical and moral standards.
A new investigative report shows that as of 30 June 2024, French multinational insurance giant AXA holds $150.43 million – US$78.87 million in shares and US$71.56 million in bonds – in eleven companies that are arming Israel during its #GazaGenocide. These are: Rolls-Royce, GE Aerospace (formerly General Electric), Honeywell Technologies, Textron, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, RTX (formerly Raytheon Technologies), L3Harris Technologies and BAE Systems.
The report is based on research by the corporate accountability group Ekō and the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), as well as on data commissioned from the independent research organization, Profundo, by the “Stop AXA Assistance to Israeli Apartheid” coalition.
AXA holds investments, amounting to $173.62 million, in at least 14 weapons manufacturers, with $134.91 million allocated to 13 companies that produce controversial weapons such as depleted uranium, nuclear arms, and white phosphorus, according to the report.
The report highlights AXA’s investments in Boeing and General Dynamics, the world’s fourth and fifth-largest weapons manufacturers. Both companies have supplied arms to Israel since the beginning of the genocide in October 2023, and their weapons have been directly linked to Israeli attacks on Palestinians in Gaza, including mass killings, such as the bombing of the Tel al-Sultan refugee camp in Rafah on 26 May, and the recent 10 September bombing of Palestinians sheltering in al-Mawasi, which Israel had designated as a “safe zone.”
SIGN THE PETITION to demand that AXA stop financing weapons - NOT IN OUR NAME.
When Russia invaded Ukraine, AXA took targeted measures against it. Palestinian civil society has long called on AXA to implement a coherent responsible investment policy and end its complicity in apartheid Israel’s violations of Palestinian human rights as well as in climate destruction.
“The socialism I believe in isn’t really politics. It is a way of living. It is humanity. I believe the only way to live and to be truly successful is by collective effort, with everyone working for each other, everyone helping each other, and everyone having a share of the rewards at the end of the day. That might be asking a lot, but it’s the way I see football and the way I see life.”
