Earlier in the year a close friend of mine was sent to a wilderness program, and about a month ago she was sent to the Greenbrier Academy for Girls. My friends and I being both curious and suspicious of the “therapeutic” boarding school knowing what’s behind the majority of these type of schools, researched and found multiple sources of the therapists being non licensed and even gossiping to the other staff about what happens in their CONFIDENTIAL sessions, students being under fed, going to a mountain that overlooks the school on “village” retreats where they have them perform closed practices from Native American and African cultures such as sweat lodges (where multiple students have passed out from the heat and the ones that don’t participate are shamed for it), chants, and drumming, and even forced to have “visions”. How do they get to the mountain? They have them walk in silence in a single file line, carrying a 10-20 pound rock all the way there. The school’s founder, L.J Mitchell, has even admitted to being responsible for a teen’s death. Not to mention the school was also a prison for women at one point and apparently there is a floor that the students aren’t allowed in that still has prison cells. Its not only shocking but inhumane that someone would send their kid to a school like this. Theres not much we can do as teens but anything helps, we would love it if you could donate or share this petition to spread awareness on “therapeutic” boarding school’s.  

UPDATE:

On March 6th 2023 Greenbrier Academy for Girls closed down. This morning right when i woke up, my friend texted me telling me that she got out and that the school was closing down for real. I am so happy and grateful for this news. She comes home today, thank you everyone for signing, my love goes out for you.
