Re: Nomination of Mr Ahmed Al Ahmed for the Cross of Valour (CV)

We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition urging formal consideration for the awarding of the Cross of Valour (CV) to Mr Ahmed Al Ahmed, whose actions meet and exemplify the highest standard of courage recognised in Australia’s honours system.

The Cross of Valour is bestowed “only for acts of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme peril.” Mr Ahmed Al Ahmed’s extraordinary conduct clearly embodies this requirement.

Statement of Facts
On the 14th of December 2025, during an act of terrorism that threatened the lives of innocent people, Mr Ahmed Al Ahmed displayed exceptional bravery and decisive action without regard for his own safety. Confronted with a violent assailant armed with a deadly weapon, Mr Al Ahmed intervened at point-blank range.

Despite facing immediate and grave danger, he successfully disarmed the terrorist, preventing what could have been a catastrophic loss of life. His actions were not only selfless but undertaken with full awareness of the peril, and they directly saved countless individuals who would otherwise have been at immediate risk.

Mr Al Ahmed sustained injuries as a result of his intervention—further evidence of his willingness to place himself between danger and the public. His conduct reflects the highest ideals of courage, civic responsibility, and dedication to the protection of others.

Grounds for Nomination
Mr Ahmed Al Ahmed’s conduct meets all criteria for the Cross of Valour:

Most Conspicuous Courage
His actions were not incidental or impulsive; they were a clear and conscious decision to confront lethal danger in order to save others.
Extreme Peril
He faced an armed terrorist and imminent threat to life. The risk he undertook was immediate and severe.
Selflessness and Public Benefit
His actions prevented mass casualties. He acted with no thought for his personal safety or wellbeing.
National Significance
The protection of civilian life in the face of terrorism is a matter of utmost national importance. His bravery stands as an example of extraordinary civic virtue.

Conclusion
In recognition of his heroism, sacrifice, and unwavering courage, we respectfully request that the Australian Bravery Decorations Council formally assess and approve Mr Ahmed Al Ahmed for the Cross of Valour, Australia’s highest non-combat decoration.

His actions stand as a testament to the values that define our nation: bravery, compassion, and the unyielding defence of innocent life.

We hereby submit this petition in honour of a true Australian hero, Ahmed Al Ahmed.
