I am deeply moved by the actions of Daryl Davis, an accomplished musician who has dedicated his life to eradicating hate. Daryl's journey began when he befriended Roger Kelly, a former Grand Wizard of the KKK. Over years of building trust and fostering understanding, Davis was instrumental in helping Kelly renounce his ties to the KKK.

But Daryl didn't stop there. He has since helped over 200 former Klan members leave behind their robes and hoods in favor of embracing unity and acceptance. This is not just a testament to his character but also proof that change is possible through dialogue and understanding.

Daryl's efforts have significantly contributed to making our country a better place by challenging racism at its core. His work aligns with the values represented by the Presidential Medal of Freedom - those of promoting peace, national interest, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
