President Trump has stated on numerous occasions that Iran must agree to a deal that prevents them from acquiring nuclear weapons or else our country will bomb them. His administration is also contradicting itself on the scope of Iran's nuclear enrichment program. If the administration pushes zero enrichment and total dismantlement of nuclear infrastructure, diplomacy will fail. A war with Iran will be devastating to our country's security and prosperity in several different ways.

First off, Iran will shut down the Straight of Hormuz. This will cut off the supply of 20% of the world's oil and cause fuel prices to skyrocket. Iran may also likely conduct cyber attacks on our electrical grid that could black it out for weeks or months. This scenario will devastate our economy and put millions of Americans' lives at risk. Furthermore, Russia and China (close allies of Iran) will likely join the fight and may also engage in cyber attacks on our electrical grid, or worse, EMP attacks. An EMP attack would permanently black out our grid, and kill at least 90% of our population within one year.

Wars leave a lasting impact, causing the loss of countless lives, displacement of families, and long-term economic and social destabilization. A war with Iran would not only endanger American lives but would also have catastrophic ramifications for the Iranian people and the broader region, potentially leading to a humanitarian crisis of unimaginable proportions.

The cost of war is way too high. President Trump needs to either back off from the maximalist aim for total dismantlement of Iran's enrichment capabilities, or back off on the military threats if a deal cannot be reached anyway.
