Dear Residents of Aventura Isles, I have recently found out that our properties are being continuously treated for weeds with RoundUp and/or its generic equivalent RangerPro - a toxic chemical that is known to cause cancer. In several independent studies glyphosate (a chemical contained in RoundUp) has been detected in the blood and urine of agricultural workers and other studies IARC investigated indicated that it caused DNA and chromosomal damage in mammals, as well as in human and animal cells in the womb. In animal tests, IARC researchers found that mice exposed to glyphosate developed skin tumors, renal tubule carcinoma, as well as pancreatic islet-cell adenoma. As a result the World Health Organization declared in 2015 that Roundup is a probable carcinogen* (see reference). RoundUp is the brain child of Monsanto, an American company. They are the ones that introduced GMO (genetically modified organisms) soy and corn, cotton, and the list goes on) back some years ago claiming it to be safe. Today, through studies and personal experiences of regular people, we know that GMOs cause all sorts of health problems including cancer. Roundup is a GMO crop ready chemical that was made in order to facilitate the growth of GMOs. It is now used in America, in addition to conventional farming, for weed control. There is a list of countries including Netherland, Sweden, France, and more that have banned RoundUp due to its chemical properties and effects on people's health. RoundUp is especially dangerous for children, pregnant women and pets. There are healthier and more sustainable alternatives to RoundUp and we have to collectively make a choice.
