Autism NI is calling for a specialist Autism Mental Health Service for Northern Ireland

The Issue

Autistic people have higher levels of poor mental health compared to the general population and are more vulnerable to mental health issues, particularly in adolescence and early adulthood. With over 35,000 autistic people living in Northern Ireland, we believe that there must be immediate action taken to introduce a specialist autism mental health service.

Autistic people are detrimentally affected by poor mental health with over 80% of autistic adults likely to experience depression and nine times more likely to die from suicide.  Autistic children are also 20 times more likely to self-harm.  Therefore, we urgently need mental health professionals that are trained in autism who can deliver support strategies that work for autistic people, within a timely manner.

With the right support autistic people can lead fulfilling and productive lives, but they need to be given the opportunity to do this through enjoying good mental health.

Autism NI is asking YOU to 'Sign' and 'Share' this petition to show our Department of Health that we need action NOW.
